Issued between 1921 and 1923, this set is confused by some collectors with the E121 and E122 sets issued during the same years. It's easy to confuse the sets, because all three share a similar design and about half of the photos used in the E220 set are also found on E121 (and E120) cards. Understanding that E220 was the only set released by the National Caramel Company helps clear up some of the confusion.

Card fronts feature a simple design. They measure 2" by 3 1/4" and feature a black-and-white photo of a player. Below the player is a small off-white box that gives the player's name, position and team in neatly-written black ink. A thin black line surrounds both the player photo and caption, and a white border surrounds the card. The box within the black outline differentiates E220s from E121, which has the same info as part of the white border. Backs are written horizontally in black type: "This set consists of pictures of 120 of the leading Base Ball stars of the American and National Leagues, Made only by the National Caramel Company, Lancaster Penna."

Despite the reference to 120 players in the set, there are actually 115. Six players are featured on two different cards, bringing the set total to 121 cards. A number of Hall of Famers appear in this set, including Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Rogers Hornsby and Casey Stengel. Stengel is one of many players having their names spelled wrong, and all are listed in the checklist below as they appear on the card.
